Survey of university lecturers

Within the framework of the quality analysis of the study programs, the ZQA conducts not only student surveys but instructor surveys as well. The instructor surveys are an important component of the evaluation of the study programs. They take place either through an online survey (for degree programs with a sufficiently large amount of instructors) or through qualitative one-on-one interviews with professors and instructors. In some cases group discussions with research assistants and research fellows of the program are carried out (for programs with a small amount of instructors).

The instructors are asked in the interviews to provide an assessment of the quality of teaching and studying in their study program. It consists of a critical evaluation of the following aspects:

• Goals and course offerings in the study program
• Organization of the study program
• Counseling and support of the students
• Examinations
• Qualifications in didactics for higher education

Along with analyzing the study program, the instructors are invited to provide an assessment of their professional situation. The questions regard the following aspects:

• Distribution of workload between the areas of research, teaching, university administration, etc.
• Participation in decision-making and the opportunity to contribute your own ideas
• Workload

The highest degree of transparency of the study conditions are created through the quality analysis of the study programs at the TU Dresden. The quality of the study programs is ensured and can be developed further through these analyses. Each study program is normally evaluated every five years as a part of the university internal quality management. Substantial control of the quality development of the study conditions should be possible with this time frame.
