Grundsteinlegung für das Rechenzentrum des Lehmann-Zentrums

Zeitgleich mit der Installation der zweiten Stufe für den neuen Hochleistungsrechner/Speicherkomplex II (HRSK II) erhält das im Mai 2010 gegründete Lehmann-Zentrum der TU Dresden ein Rechenzentrum (LZR). Die Grundsteinlegung an der Nöthnitzer Straße fand am 21. Mai 2013 heute im Beisein des Sächsischen Staatsministers für Finanzen, Professor Dr. Georg Unland, statt. Im Oktober 2014 wird der durch das Zentrum für Informationsdienste und Hochleistungsrechnen (ZIH) konzipierte und betriebene neue Supercomputer der TU Dresden in diesen Neubau einziehen. Mit seiner Kombination aus Rechner- und Speichersystem ist er als Schlüsseltechnologie für die Forschung im Freistaat in IT-Konzept und Zukunftskonzept der TU Dresden eingebunden und wichtiger Bestandteil von DRESDEN-concept . Neben dem HRSK II wird das Rechenzentrum die zentralen IT-Systeme der TU Dresden beherbergen sowie für darüber hinausgehende IT-Basisdienste für weitere sächsische Forschungseinrichtungen offen stehen. Auch die Daten des Universitätsklinikums werden nach der Fertigstellung hier gespeichert und verarbeitet. Die Infrastruktur genügt deshalb den höchsten Sicherheits- und Verfügbarkeitsansprüchen. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die sehr hohe Energieeffizienz, die auch dadurch befördert wird, dass die Rechnerabwärme zur Gebäudeheizung nachgenutzt werden kann. Erster Abnehmer wird der geplante Neubau des Instituts für Angewandte Photophysik sein.

End of the  IDM implementation phase

The new Identitity Management System (IDM) is started on December, 10, 2012. It is the basic for the authentification at some systems like Webmail, Exchange, the High Performance Computers, the central login servers and others.
With the start of IDM also a new password policy was activated. Your password must have at least one sign of these groups: capital letter, lowercase, digit,  special character.

All users had to confirm their current passwords at password-Portial (https://idm-service.tu-dresden.de ) until April, 15, 2013. 
Users who have not confirmed their accounts, have been informed before the deadline via email from ZIH. If the confirmation is not done for the user account even after prompt, the user account was disabled at  April, 23. Disabled users still have the option to confirm/unlock their password until May 5, 2013 to get unlocked.

After May, 6,  2013  unlocking of user accounts will be done exclusively through the Services Desk by  presenting the student card or identity card for employees or guests.

Since 2010 the ZIH is a member of the Gauß-Allianz. This aggregation of 16 recent science centers supports 'High Performance Computing' (HPC) as an independent and stategical research project on a national level.

The Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) is a central scientific unit of the Technische Universität Dresden with a broad spectrum of services and research competencies. It is responsible for the communication infrastructure of the university and operates the central information technology servers and services. In addition, with its interdisciplinary orientation, ZIH supports other departments and institutions in their research and education for all matters related to information technology and computer science.
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang E. Nagel is the Director of the ZIH and holds the Professorship in computer architecture at the faculty  of computer science of the Technische Universität Dresden.
