[AFT] Literature Review of Simulation environments for a Smart Home Scenario
Building complex software platforms inevitably requires testing and simulation of the envisioned usage scenarios. If the real testing of a platform involves special hardware or overall setup, a simulation of the complete application is beneficial. However, such simulations require a world model, which is both abstract enough to be easily setup and complex enough to represent the real world. Depending on the starting point of the analysis, there are simulators for self-adaptive systems in general, for smart home scenarios in particular and various visualization tools. Theoretical approaches and academic prototypes should also be included in this review. In the project "OpenLicht", a self-adaptive software platform controlling the lighting system of smart homes will be built. To test and validate such a platform or parts of it, a simulator is needed, which takes a description of the environment and the situation to be tested, and subsequently simulates possible sensors outputs. The aim of this thesis is to explore possible situations to simulate within the smart home use case and the requirements of a simulator covering those situations in the case of a smart home lighting scenario, to systematically research on existing work and to give a recommendation either for a found simulator (environment) or a vision on how it should look like.
