Neißepasserelle - A border crossing in Görlitz
In the "Architecture and Structures" module, we want to deal with the design of long-span supporting structures in the coming winter semester. Solutions for a pedestrian and cycle crossing in Görlitz are to be developed under the title "Neißepasserelle".
The design task is based on an actual need of the city of Görlitz and has been developed in close consultation with the local city administration. We will visit the site together. There will also be an opportunity to present the design results on site.
At the site of a former footbridge in the vicinity of the historic viaduct, the aim is to design a pedestrian and cycle bridge that connects the Polish and German banks of the Neisse and at the same time integrates the previously inaccessible Neisse islands. The synergy of load-bearing structure and architectural form, taking into account the diverse context of the viaduct, parks, river landscape and fragments of the former bridge, is an integral part of the task.

Ornament & Structure - On the symbiosis of aesthetics and function
This semester the module concentrates on the examination of extravagant supporting structures, whose architectural role has developed from a technical necessity to an aesthetic leitmotif.
The focus is on the systematic examination and reappraisal of historical buildings and the work of well-known protagonists. Focal points can be chosen individually on the basis of the following suggested topics.
- High Gothic vaults
- Late Gothic ribbed vaulting
- Late Gothic fan vaulting
- Oriental vault constructions
- Lever vaults
- Geodesic domes
- Bundwerk

Bridge design - a pedestrian and cycle bridge for the BUGA33 in Dresden
Student competition 2024:
In cooperation with the Institute of Concrete Structures at TU Dresden, we are offering a main design this semester as part of a student competition organized by the Institute of Concrete Structures.
The design task is derived from the real need for a pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Bergstraße, which is to be built as part of Buga 33. The busy Bergstraße divides the green recreational areas of Südpark, Räcknitzhöhe and Volkspark. The open space plan for the garden exhibition envisages connecting them by building a bridge.
Situated directly at the southern entrance to the town, the new bridge has both programmatic and representative functions. It has the potential to become the new gateway to Dresden for visitors to BUGA 2033 and beyond. The design is to be worked on by teams of architects and civil engineers.

Leutzscher Holz
Soccer and training hall for BSG Chemie Leipzig
The subject of this semester's assignment is the planning of a soccer and training hall, as well as the urban and open space development of the site in the context of its surroundings.
You will be supervised by staff from both Chairs. The aim is to develop a holistic, integral design idea that combines the aspects of both departments into a coherent solution.
By reducing the spatial program to the sports areas, we expect innovative and elaborate structural solutions that harmonize the architectural idea with the structural requirements.
