WISSENSARCHITEKTUR at TU Dresden: Model Project Smart City Dresden enters implementation phase
“WISSENSARCHITEKTUR Laboratory of Knowledge Architecture” – a collaboration between TU Dresden and the City of Dresden – has received approval from the City Council to implement their digital strategy. Visitors to the City Hall Open House Day (Tag des offenen Rathaus) on June 17 can get a closer look into the “Smart City Dresden” model project.
Testing digital formats in Dresden neighborhoods
The interdisciplinary research group, which is based at the Faculty of Architecture, has been analyzing digital urban planning and civic participation for well over a decade. The objective of the Model Project Smart City Dresden is to test and evaluate experimental and innovative digital formats relating to the environment as well as transport, energy, sports and open data in three Dresden neighborhoods.
Strategy development, accompanying research and synthesis research
With the help of specialized analysis and participation methods, the WISSENSARCHITEKTUR Lab developed a strategic vision with specialists from various expert bodies as well as key stakeholders from civil society, business and science. On June 15, 2023, the strategy document and, therefore, the basis for the implementation phase from June 2023 until December 2026, was granted approval by the City Council. WISSENSARCHITEKTUR is conducting the accompanying research and synthesis research for the implementation of the nine Smart City measures.
The Smart City pilot project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building and managed by the KfW Development Bank (KfW). Dresden is one of 28 cities that was selected as a model municipality for the third season in 2021. The project is headed by the City of Dresden’s own IT services company, Eigenbetrieb IT-Dienstleistungen Dresden (EB IT).
