Objectives and work programme
In order to maintain and continue to use listed buildings in an economical way, the building envelope must be energetically optimised and building services equipment must usually be modernised or renovated.
When optimising the energy supply for listed buildings, the objective is to preserve the appearance and substance of the listed building, while simultaneously reducing the energy consumption and providing increased comfort in interior spaces. However, these objectives are often difficult to reconcile in practice. In order to realise these aims, any measures taken previously to improve the energetic properties of listed buildings must be assessed and evaluated, including an evaluation of their influence on the design. In the planning phase, comparative analysis and evaluation of examples of listed historical buildings, building climate measurements on reference projects, and supporting demonstration projects from the field of administrative and residential construction all contribute to the development of planning guidelines. This should put all parties involved in historical building conservation in a position to cooperate with one another as partners with the required expertise.
