Objectives and work programme
The objective of the R&D project is to develop a new kind of connection system for load-bearing fittings on the glass edges of all-glass doors. The positioning of the fittings outside of the transparent field allow for cost-efficient and time-efficient customisation of the static structural properties of the fittings (e.g. load-bearing capacity), as well as tolerance-compliant compensation of glass offset, without restricting the transparent area of the door.
Using a joining process developed specifically for this purpose, the metal profiles are permanently affixed to the edge of the glass. The joining process is integrated into the manufacturing process for multi-layered glass elements, meaning that an additional manufacturing step is not needed. The universal connection system has a lot of potential for application and can be used in countless other glass applications, both within and outside of the field of building construction (e.g. facade construction, furniture production).
