Objectives and work programme
The two-fold use of active solar energy systems as electricity or heat generators and as a construction material in the building envelope can reduce the energy consumed in production, allows for appropriate integration in terms of design and construction, and avoids the use of additional space for energy production. Despite the obvious benefits, the aesthetic properties of conventional solar elements and the increased workload in production, planning and installation of building-integrated solar energy systems (BISES) have impeded widespread use. In the SoBaS network for solar construction in Saxony, eight companies along the solar supply chain and two research institutions have come together to develop innovative products and significantly reduce costs to improve the application potential of BISES.
The structure of the network firstly acts to pool the expertise in the solar and machinery construction industries in Saxony and promote an exchange of knowledge. As network manager, BTI Technologieagentur Dresden GmbH takes care of the shared PR work and helps to implement new ideas in collaborative research projects, as well as marketing practical applications. A web presence provides information about the results of their work and advertises for other industry partners, particularly in the fields of glass and facade construction. As an associated partner, the Institute of Building Construction performs custom training and qualification measures for network partners.
