Selection of a Name
The Institute of Building Construction at TU Dresden has intensively applied itself to research in the fields of Efficient Glass Construction and Gluing Technology. Regarding the history of area surrounding Dresden, it becomes evident that close relations to glass construction have existed for a considerable time. The local entrepreneur and researcher Friedrich Siemens (1826-1904) gained great renown in the field of glass and smelting technology due to his invention of the melting tank. The institute’s recently extended test facility, which is now especially equipped for the examination of adhesive connection, was named Friedrich Siemens Laboratory in his honor in November 2008.
The test facility’s extension is supported by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF) in the frame of the subsidy program “InnoProfile” as part of the “Unternehmen Regio” innovation initiative.
