Death of Prof. Werner
Last Sunday, Professor Heinrich Werner passed away after a serious illness. Born in Birkungen in 1931, Heinrich Werner studied civil engineering from 1952 to 1958 at what was then the TH Dresden. After graduation he started working as a scientific assistant. He received his doctorate from the Technical University of Hanover in 1965. With the successful completion of his habilitation in 1969 in the field of 'Electronic Computing in Structural Engineering' he is one of the pioneers in the field of 'Bauinformatik' in Germany. Until his retirement in 1997, Professor Heinrich Werner led the Department of Electronic Computing in Structural Engineering at TU München, Germany. His work initially focused on the numerical principles of structural analysis, foundation engineering and steel and prestressed concrete design methods, as well as the development of an early modular program system for integrated computer-aided analysis in civil engineering, which was used intensively in the construction of the Munich subway, among other things. He provided decisive impetus for the development of the subject of Bauinformatik at German-speaking universities.
Not least because of his great humanity and openness, he was both a teacher and a role model for his students and employees. We will always keep Professor Werner in honorable memory.
