The Soil Mechanics Laboratory in the Geotechnical Institute is a modern and powerful facility. Numerous laboratory studies for research projects and theses has already been carried out. In addition, orders for third-party partners (e.g. industrial research) are processed on a regular basis. Likewise, in the field of teaching, especially for the civil engineering course, internships and exercises in the laboratory are offered.

In 2016 the laboratory soil mechanics at the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering was honoured as "Excellent apprenticeship company". The award was given due to the excellent schooling of Marcel Voigt who graduated as the best student in the education as material tester for Geotechnical Engineering in 2016.
