Abstract:
This paper derives a new calculation method for observing labour productivity in the German construction industry. The focus is on the determination of construction-specific calculation factors and the analysis of selected studies and technical reports that describe poor labour productivity in the German construction industry. The influencing factors examined consist of both the literature analysis of the studies and the current state of science as well as the analysis of the historical course of labour productivity in the German construction industry. The calculation factors are divided into hard and soft factors. The hard factors are fragmentation, investment technology and construction process disruptions. Individuality, lack of skilled workers, weather, politics and contract structures form the soft calculation factors. The new calculation method can prove that the previous study results do not provide a representative determination of labour productivity in the German construction industry. The consideration of construction-specific calculation factors is necessary for a representative calculation of labour productivity in the German construction industry.
