Kick-off event for the "BIM2Build" project

On February 25, 2025, the Institute of Concrete Structures at Dresden University of Technology (TUD) will launch the new research project "BIM2Build - Scientific monitoring of BIM processes in the construction of current rail infrastructure projects". The project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), will run from 01.12.2024 to 30.11.2025.

The aim of the project is to analyze how the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) can positively influence the realization of infrastructure projects beyond the planning stage. To this end, real rail infrastructure projects planned with BIM are to be analyzed in terms of their efficiency, costs and other performance parameters and compared with traditionally planned projects. From this comparative analysis, possibilities for standardization and practical recommendations are to be derived in order to make the use of BIM in construction more efficient.

The focus of the project is on the use of BIM in the phases of construction, in which it is currently hardly used in Germany. Instead, the digital data from building information models is transferred from the planning phase to other information media, often printed 2D plans, and information is lost or even displayed incorrectly. Such problems are to be identified in this research project and, if possible, solved with recommendations for action in order to be able to introduce continuous digital processes over the life cycle of a building in the long term.

The event will take place on February 25, 2025 from 9 am to 11 am on the premises of the TUD Dresden University of Technology and will also be accessible online. In addition to two keynote speeches on the topic of "BIM in construction", there will also be a project presentation. Afterwards, we hope to receive your questions about the topic and the project.
