The European Union offers a variety of funding programs to support research and education as a valuable public good. Our project was funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Project duration
10/2025 - 12/2027
Brief description
The aim of the planned joint R&D project is to develop a new, durable, sustainable and intelligent asphalt construction method with textile reinforcement and integrated fiber-based sensor technology. The combination of highly rigid, temperature-reduced asphalt base layers, high-performance textile reinforcements and integrated sensor systems should enable road loads to be continuously monitored and the remaining service life to be digitally predicted. The project includes research into new asphalt formulations, textile and sensor integration processes and the development of AI-supported methods for in-situ data evaluation. This will create an intelligent, digitally monitored road construction method for the first time, giving the Saxon partner companies a unique selling point worldwide and contributing to sustainability and increased efficiency in road construction in the long term.
