Saxony in Motion – What does the future hold? Panel discussion with Ursula Staudinger, Carsten Schneider, Andreas Otto and Kirstin Zinke
Unfortunately, the event has had to be canceled at short notice. We apologize to all interested parties.
Structural change and with it extensive transformation processes are presenting the state of Saxony and Lusatia in particular with unprecedented challenges. The TU Dresden will now be taking a look at the future of Saxony and its diverse perspectives, but also at the historical peculiarities of the region and its formative role in the further development of the state.
On November 15, 2024, the panel discussion "Saxony on the move - What does the future hold?" will take place at the TUD Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden). The event promises to offer exciting insights into the role of science in Saxony's political discourse and economic development, among other things.
The Rector of TU Dresden, Prof. Ursula Staudinger, will discuss with the Minister of State and Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany, Carsten Schneider, the Head of Regional Transformation at the German Center for Astrophysics, Dr. Andreas Otto, and the Managing Director of the Saxony Sociocultural Association, Kirstin Zinke.
The discussion will focus on key topics such as structural change and innovation against the backdrop of Saxony's industry, as well as the so-called "coal billions", innovative projects and demographic change, which poses major challenges for Saxony's rural regions in particular. Another focus will be the role of science as a companion, but also as a possible catalyst for change. In addition, the specific challenges of region and culture in the new federal states as well as the handling of transformations between stagnation and avant-garde, which still characterize the field of tension between East and West today, will be discussed.
This event is part of the "Transformation East" series, which aims to network academic research on post-socialist transformation at TU Dresden and to make a public contribution to the broad debate on the position of East Germany.
The panel discussion will take place at 18:30 in the Fritz-Foerster-Bau,
Mommsenstraße 6, Room FOE/244/H of the TU Dresden. To register for the event, please send an email to the Emerging Field Coordinator: Dr. Lucas von Ramin:
