spann_weiten - faculty discussion about the climate emergency
In this winter semester, the spans are dedicated to "architecture in a state of emergency". The series of events organized by students from the Faculty of Architecture focuses on dealing with the climate emergency, especially for the further development of teaching.
The first spann_weiten event of this semester took place on October 20, 2021 in a hybrid form. The way the Faculty of Architecture dealt with the topic was discussed in the podium and with the guests. The interdisciplinary nature of the courses, the current forms of teaching, as well as the future world of application and the adaptability of the university as well as other topics were discussed. Numerous professors were present on the podium: from the Faculty of Architecture as well as the Student Council of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. The demanding discussion was moderated by Daniel Blume, scientific associate and doctoral student at the Chair of Landscape Engineering. During the discussion there was also room for questions and suggestions from the guests, who had participated in large numbers (about 300 people) on site and virtually.
The discussion enabled a broad discourse on the topic, which resulted from the different perspectives in the course of the evening. There are already numerous collaborations between professorships at the faculty, joint projects and interdisciplinary courses. Often, however, these are optional for the students to choose when the question arose as to whether the offer was sufficient. The acceptance of these offers by students also varies. The question of whether more efficient learning through increasing digitization would be conceivable and desirable also arose during the discussion. In addition, the monopoly of the construction sector and the inertia of change processes at the university add to the complexity of the challenge. A structural change in the faculty was suggested as one of the possible solutions.
The students of the Faculty of Architecture presented a catalog of requirements, which forms the basis for further discussions.
