"Christening" of the experimental hall of the Department of Hydrosciences in "Karl-Franz Busch Technikum"
On 10 June 2022, the "christening" of the experimental hall of the Department of Hydrosciences at TU Dresden in the "Karl-Franz Busch Technikum" in the new chemistry building 2nd construction phase was celebrated. In the experimental hall, meso-scale experiments are conducted on various questions of industrial and residential water management, hydrochemistry, hydrology and groundwater management. Prof. Karl-Franz Busch is considered to be the founder of the former Water Engineering Section, which was completed on 22 October 1968 as part of the GDR university reform. By bringing together all water-related scientific disciplines, he succeeded in taking a visionary step at that time, from which today's Hydrosciences Department still benefits and which often serves as a model for other national and international "water studies" programmes.
Prof. Rudolf Liedl, initiator of the naming and former head of the professorship of groundwater management, gave an introduction to the motivation and history of the naming. Prof. Christina Dornack, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Head of the Chair of Waste and Recycling Management, classified Karl-Franz-Busch's achievements and unveiled the commemorative plaque. After toasting this act, Prof. Peter Krebs, Head of the Chair of Urban Water Management, paid tribute to the person of Karl-Franz Busch and his work in a lecture. Finally, the approximately 40 guests were given the opportunity to visit the pilot plant. Scientists were available at the individual test facilities to provide explanations and answer questions.
