Climate change-induced stress in spruce in the Eastern Carpathians

Andrei Popa, a visiting researcher at our group in 2023, published a study on early warning signals of climate-change induced stress in Norway spruce in the Eastern Carpathians in Science of the Total Environment. Based on an impressive tree-ring network from 157 sites, recent growth decline was observed for a region where no large-scale growth decline has been reported so far. Overall, the study indicates an increased vulnerability of spruce and suggests future dieback in this part of Europe as well.
