Growth superiority of German red oak provenances
Red oak is the most common non-native deciduous tree species in Germany as well as a potential alternative tree species in a future warmer climate. In a study led by Ph.D. student Jonathan Kormann, which was recently published paper in Forest Ecology and Management, the growth performance of red oak was studied in provenance trials in Germany. In total, the growth performance of 12 provenances was compared, six of North American origin and six sourced from introduced stands from Germany. Interestingly, growth superiority of the German provenances was found.
