Welcome 11th cartography intake!
Welcome 11th intake!
21 students, 13 different countries and 10 languages spoken – this is our 11th interntional cartography master intake in numbers!
The Welcoming Week 2021 took place between 11 – 18th October at the main TUM campus in Munich. It was finally possible to celebrate it as an on-site event after we followed all the safety regulations.
The programme included a mix of orienteering and cartographic sessions with programme partners, lecturers, and alumni. The activities were streamed for the students who could not join us in Munich due to ongoing visa procedures and travel arrangements.
Our newcomers participated in a virtual library tour, campus tour and intercultural training workshop. All partners introduced their universities, their role within the programme and the highlights of every semester. Four keynotes were given on the cutting-edge topics such as “The relevance of modern cartography” or “Maps, and challenges of mapping SDG indicators data”. The week was closed with the “Meet and Greet” with Programme alumni, who introduced students with their career options in academia, industry, and freelancing.
Online or onsite, the Welcoming Week cannot skip our small cartographic traditions. The students scratched their countries of origin from programme student’s map and our 10th intake produced a welcome video to greet their new peers.
But studying Cartography Master also means immersing in four different city cultures! Therefore, the week’s programme included shared lunch in a Bavarian Biergarten and a trip to city museum to see the “Typically Munich” exhibition.
