Topographic Map Production
Content
Students have a basic understanding of the methods and tools used in topographic map production. They are able to use various data models, data structures and data sources appropriately. They have mastered the methods of collecting spatial data in the field, as well as its further processing and cartographic design. They can design and produce high-quality map products. In addition, they are able to independently carry out map editing and quality assurance tasks and apply modern printing and publication techniques.
The module covers the following topics
- Collection and modelling of topographical data
- Coordinate reference systems and geodetic projections
- Interactive and automatic generalisation methods
- Fonts and label placement
- Methods of terrain representation
- Creative use of colour and development of map styles
- Layout, print preparation and web output
