Development of a fast method for the generation of 3D – models of biological samples
Project title
Development and test of a fast method for the generation of 3D – models of biological samples using images from multiple views
Funding
description
Large amounts of biological samples are routinely analysed in laboratories. Common and repetitive tasks are the recognition and classification of the samples in the culture dish as well as the extraction of parts for further cultivation. Current systems for automating these tasks are susceptible for errors because of their limitation to 2D – image processing. Aim of this project is the development of a more robust measurement system by using multiple cameras. The challenging parts for this project are the slight transparency and faint textures of the samples. Additional difficulties are reflections do to the high humidity.
The tasks for this project are the 3D – reconstruction of the samples and the derivation of parameters for the surface description and classification. Furthermore the cameras will be used for the control and tracking of the robot to extract parts of the sample.
