Public Outreach
The Astronomy Working Group is very committed to the public dissemination of astronomical knowledge. This includes the communication of the latest scientific findings within the framework of public contracts as well as participation in children's universities, guided tours for groups through the Lohrmann observatory or events on special astronomical events, such as the passage of Venus.
Guided Tours through the Lohrmann-Observatorium
A complete renovation of the Beyer building is planned from the beginning of 2017. Due to the deinstallation of our telescope at the end of May and the upcoming move of the working group to the office building on August-Bebel-Straße in mid-August 2016, we are unfortunately no longer able to offer guided tours. After the renovation work has been completed, we would be happy to welcome you again with a freshly renovated refractor and our new planetarium for tours.

The transit of Venus in 2004 and 2012 at the Lohrmann Observatory
On June 8, 2004 and June 6, 2012 the Lohrmann Observatory recorded a veritable rush of visitors. The reason was the rare occurrence of a transit of our neighboring planet Venus in front of the sun. Read a report that was written by a student at a Dresden grammar school. It also contains one-off recordings and video sequences that were obtained on these days by the employees of the Lohrmann Observatory.
