Structure and function of lakes and reservoirs ecosystems and their control, especially under the influence of climate change
The increase in water temperature affects the interactions in food webs and changes the species composition.
We study the effects of climate change on the thermal structure and on the interactions of organisms. The geographic location of the water bodies is taken into account and differences in effects between the water bodies are determined. We use both analysis of long-term data and mechanistic models to investigate these questions.
Methods
- Analysis of long-term data on the water quality of drinking water reservoirs in different regions in Germany
- Field investigations on phytoplankton and zooplankton in different reservoirs
- Mechanistic modeling
