Concept of Climate Measurements at Schools
Background to the topic:
The LfULG has been leading the SMEKUL's Climate Schools WG since 01.01.2021 and is responsible for advising on the use of the variable part of the annual funding. The LfULG is also tasked with advising municipalities on adapting to climate change and raising public awareness of climate change and its consequences. No detailed measured data is yet available on the inner-city heat island effect, but only rough model results. Additional measurement data to validate the model output is therefore needed in order to develop measures for faster adaptation to climate change. The LfULG is pursuing the goal of sensitising citizens, in particular schoolchildren, to the climate consequences in their environment by dealing with meteorological measurements and their changes, as well as obtaining additional climate data for the verification of model results on the urban climate.
Objective:
The aim of the project is to develop a concept for the use of stationary meteorological stations at climate schools and for the implementation of mobile measurements by the LfULG or on its behalf. The concept is to contain a proposal for making the above-mentioned additional measurement results available in the Regional Climate Information System ReKIS (in addition to the already existing data of the German Meteorological Service and from state measurement networks).
