University-wide inaugural lecture Prof. Jakob Zscheischler: "Towards Understanding Extreme Climate Impacts"
The university-wide inaugural lecture "Towards Understanding Extreme Climate Impacts" by Prof. Jakob Zscheischler took place on May 16, 2024 in the Schönfeld lecture hall. Prof. Zscheischler holds the Chair of Professur Data Analytics in Hydro Sciences and heads the Department of Compound Environmental Risks at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ. After a few introductory words by Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger and the Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Peter Krebs, Prof. Dietrich Borchardt, Head of the Research Unit Water Resources and Environment at the UFZ, gave the laudatory speech. Prof. Zscheischler's lecture conveyed the diverse and interlinked causes of extreme climate change impacts such as crop failures, forest dieback and flooding, and shighlighted approaches on how we can better counter such climate risks in the future.
