ABSOLUT II – Continuation of the joint research project on highly automated driving in public transport
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) is funding the continuation of the ABSOLUT research and development project with a total volume of around €12 million, of which around €2.3 million goes to the Technical University of Dresden. As part of the project launch on November 13th, 2023, Christian Liebich, project manager of the technology program "ICT for Electromobility" at the BMWK, symbolically presented the funding notices to the consortium.
In ABSOLUT II, business, science and the city of Leipzig work closely with the Leipzig transport company. The aim of the project is to replace the previous safety driver in the vehicle with a stationary technical supervisor in a control center in accordance with the Autonomous Driving Act and to provide the necessary technology in the control center, communication with the vehicle and the necessary interfaces. The Technical University of Dresden is represented in the consortium with four professorships and is leading the work package to upgrade the existing test vehicle.
Further information about the project can be found on the project homepage. The professorships involved at TU Dresden are:
• Professorship for vehicle mechatronics
• Professorship for Information Technology for Transport Systems
• Professorship for Traffic Process Automation
• Junior professorship for mechatronics/vocational didactics
