Students from Beijing Jiaotong University

Guided tour of the EBL by Di Gao from the Chair of Railway Signaling and Transport Safety Technology
As part of a reciprocal student exchange between the Faculty of Transportation and Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) in Beijing, students from BJTU's Transportation degree program visited us at the faculty on 25.08. One part of the program was an afternoon in the railway operations laboratory. With the help of the staff of the Chair of Railway Operations and the Chair of Railway Signaling and Transport Safety Technology, a two-stage program was held in the EBL.
First, the students were given a guided tour of all generations of signal boxes in the laboratory. The students accompanied a special train for which they were allowed to set the routes in the old technology area at each signal box.
The students were then divided into 4 groups and were allowed to drive the trains according to the timetable under supervision at the Neustadt, Waldhof, Adorf and Fahrpult operating stations in the new technology area. They had 30 minutes at each station and then switched so that each of the 4 groups was everywhere at the end.
The aim was to give the students the opportunity to get to know the interrelationships and workings of the German rail system and, in particular, to understand the high complexity of rail operations through their own exercises. In particular, by including the train driver's perspective, the interaction and the individual activities for the operation could be conveyed very well.
