Analysis of Transportation Data
Modern transportation systems must satisfy various requirements with respect to safety, environmental friendliness, efficiency (productivity, performance, LCC) as well as comfort. Precise recording and analysis of traffic and transportation data as well as of reliability and maintenance data, briefly: field data, are accordingly indispensable for modern traffic management. The fundament of optimal traffic system management is a reliable data resource which allows the generation of traffic and transportation models, simulations and forecasts close to reality.
Thus, our research approach uses numeric methods as well as descriprtive prcoedures in setting up traffic and transportation models. The objectives are on the one hand cost-utility and safety analysis which are based on field data and on the other hand the modeling and simulation of traffic and transportation systems including possible management procedures. The calibration and validation of models using real-world measurement data grants meaningful results for planning and operation of safe and efficient infrstructures and transportation systems.
Recording and analysis of real-world data on:
- traffic and transportation safety
- quality management
- transportation system design and layout
- etc.
The following methods and theories are primarily applied to analysis and modeling of quality characteristics of transportation processes:
- statistic analysis of traffic data
- theory on process process design of transportation services and measurement of service quality
- stochastic theory on quality, perfomance and temporal behaviour of traffic and transport systems
- management of traffic and transportation processes and networks
- reliability and maintenance of transport systems
- traffic flow modeling in transport networks
- productivity and performance of transport systems
