Flight Scheduling
Besides other research focuses, the Chair of Traffic Flow Science is concerned with seasonal flight scheduling of airlines providing scheduled air traffic services to passengers. Thereby, the research objective is mathematical optimization of flight scheduling delivering seasonal flight plans. The objectives of the optimization is to maximize the potential revenue from the flight schedule while providing minimized production costs (e.g. crew rostering, aircraft maintenance, airport slot allocation). A variation of different user specifications are included into the optimization model:
- adherence of historic airport slots
- inhomogeneous aircraft fleet
- aircraft stationing at home bases
- assistence in aircraft maintenance
- combination of flight scheduling optimization with traffic demand models
- interface with crew rostering
The objective of the research project is the implementation of the mathematical optimization model in a prototyping software. This prototype is intended as decision supporting tool for commercial flight scheduling through providing several seasonal flight schedule scenarios for economic evaluation.
