Research Project "Mobility in Cities – SrV"

The household travel survey (HTS) Mobility in Cities, founded in 1972 as a "System of Representative Travel Surveys (SrV)", serves to determine mobility parameters of the urban resident population.

The fieldwork period of the 12th round of the SrV study was successfully completed at the beginning of 2024. The survey was conducted simultaneously in more than 500 German cities and municipalities from January 2023.

The SrV Standard

The SrV is committed to providing a continuous and comparable time series. The survey design is therefore characterized by certain core features. These include the fact that the population consists of the inhabitants of the respective city or municipality; the mobility of the resident population thus represents the central research subject.

Results of SrV 2018

The results of "Mobility in Cities – SrV 2018" specific to each city were published by the commissioning institutions on their own. City-independent results, such as the comparison of participating cities or city groups, or presentations of higher-level development trends are published by TU Dresden. These are available for download for the 2018 survey.

Participat­ing Cities and Municipal­ities SrV 2023

The 2023 SrV survey covered a total of 134 study areas, comprising about 500 cities, municipalities and administrative communities within the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany. For 25 of the study areas, this is the first SrV survey.

"Mobility in Cities - SrV"

The coordination and scientific management of the survey is the responsibility of the Chair of Mobility System Planning (until 09/2023 Chair of Integrated Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering). Following a Europe-wide invitation to tender, TU Dresden has commissioned the Leipzig-based institute O.trend GmbH to carry out the SrV 2023 surveys.
