Joint Workshop of TU Dresden und ETH Zürich
On March 15 and 16, the Chair of Rail and Public Urban Transport (Dr. Nikola Bešinović) invited to a joint workshop.
Our colleague Felix Rauschert participated in this event alongside other Ph.D. students from the Chair of Traffic Flow Science and the Institute of Transport Planning and Systems at ETH Zurich.
The first day of the event allowed the participants to gain insight into the operations center of DB Netz in Leipzig and the classification yard in Halle. During the tours, the participants were able to learn about the operational processes of the facilities and talk to the staff about their areas of responsibility. The challenges and solutions of the practitioners together with the models and ideas of the participants led to exciting conversations and one or other new idea.
On the following day, the Ph.D. students had the opportunity to present their research topics in the areas of Operation Research and Machine Learning. In this context, Felix Rauschert also presented his research on the application of reinforcement learning to dynamic vehicle routing problems. The different approaches and research topics of the participants led to exciting discussions and new ideas for the own research areas. The event was concluded by a short guided tour through the railroad operations laboratory of the Chair of Rail and Public Urban Transport.
We thank you for organizing the event and look forward to future collaborations.
