Transportation Economics and Data Science – Information for Students

⚠️ Important Information
New academic documents will take effect on October 1, 2026. Students may transfer to the academic and examination regulations valid as of the 2026–2027 winter semester at the start of each semester. To do so, the declaration of transfer must be submitted to the Examination Office by September 30, 2026, or March 31, 2026. Modules completed and exam results obtained up to that point can be transferred to the new study and examination regulations in accordance with the equivalency table.

Course of Study

Overview

The diagram shows the structure of the program. The five compulsory modules Operation Research and Logistics, Methods in Transport Policy, Spatial Economics and the Environment, Thoretical Multivariate Statistics, and Methods in Data Analytics are in the first semester. Four elective modules from the five concentrations Computational Logistics, Transportation Policy, Spatial and Environmental Economics, Statistics, and Data Analytics in Transportation, two of which must be chosen, are in the second semester. A major module, "Reseach Work," is in the third semester. For this purpose, one elective module must be chosen in the first semester, two elective modules in the second semester, and three elective modules in the third semester. The master thesis is in the fourth semester.

Courses are held in 90-minute double periods (DS):
1st DS: 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
2nd DS: 9:20 a.m. – 10:50 a.m.
3rd DS: 11:10 a.m. – 12:40 p.m.
4th DS: 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.
5th DS: 2:50 p.m. – 4:20 p.m.
6th DS: 4:40 p.m. – 6:10 p.m.
7. DS: 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Weekly Schedule

Some courses are held only every other week. The class schedule distinguishes between odd calendar weeks and even calendar weeks :
1. Week: odd week, e.g., calendar week 41.
2. Week: even week, e.g., calendar week 42.

Abbreviations

The letters preceding the course title indicate the type of course and its classification in the academic schedule:

V Lecture, Ü Exercise, S Seminar, P Practicum, SP Language Course, T Tutorial

O required (mandatory module),
W elective (one of several courses must be selected).

A transfer to the study and examination regulations valid starting in the 2026/2027 winter semester is possible at the beginning of each semester. To do so, a declaration of transfer must be submitted to the Examination Office by September 30, 2026, or March 31, 2026. Modules completed and exam results obtained up to that point can be transferred to the new Study and Examination Regulations in accordance with the equivalency table.
