Course of studies
Main course of study: the last two semesters
- the 9th semester includes a professional internship of 420 hours as well as the completion of a study thesis
- in the 10th semester you complete your diploma thesis
In the 9th semester, as a part of module 203 "Forschungs- und Praxisprojekt Verkehrsingenieurwesen, you have to complete a professional internship. Your weekly working time should correspond to the usual working time in the internship company, but not less than 20 hrs. per week. If the internship is subdivided, the smallest part must not be less than 120 hrs.
Objective
The purpose of the professional internship is to introduce the students to the work of a traffic engineer through his or her participation in everyday tasks. The professional internship is intended to supplement and deepen the knowledge gained during the course of study. On the one hand, it should be related to the subject area and field of study, and on the other hand, it should be broadly diversified. The student should gain knowledge and experience of his or her future professional environment, including the social side of the work process. He or she should get to know the position and responsibility of the engineer in the company and, as far as possible, gain insight into the company organization and management.
Because of the value of practical knowledge, we recommend that you extend your entire practical training beyond the mandatory internship.

In this semester, the student research project must be completed and defended (15 CP).
You can choose the topic of your thesis yourself:
- The Chairs have various topics available to work on. These are published on the Internet or can be viewed on request.
- In some cases, it is also possible to work on your own topic suggestions (e.g. from practical contacts). In this case, the Chairs must be asked whether they can supervise the topic in terms of content and capacity.
The guidelines for writing the student research project apply.
Here are further notes on the student research project.
