Insect hotel built on the TU Dresden campus!
On 23 April, together we built an insect hotel on the TU Dresden campus. Located behind the Bio-Bau, in the middle of insect-friendly meadows, we have created an ideal retreat for our crawling and flying friends. The insect hotel was largely built from collected or donated material, which we obtained through TUD-wide searches. This allowed us to minimise our ecological footprint.
Numerous students helped to realise the project on site. Students from a wide range of disciplines came together to exchange ideas informally. A big thank you to everyone who actively helped in their free time. You have made a significant contribution to the success of this project.
With this project, we are setting an example for environmental protection and the promotion of biodiversity on our campus! By creating a habitat for insects, their populations can be supported, which in turn contributes to the preservation of biodiversity. In addition, insects act as pollinators for many plants and thus contribute to the reproduction and preservation of various plant species, which ultimately stabilises and strengthens the entire ecosystem.
Special thanks also go to the Green Office for their great support and to the Environmental Commission and all members of the working group for their valuable planning work. Special praise also goes to our SHK Tina Werchan for her outstanding project coordination and the construction plan.
