Teaching in SoSe 2023

In the summer semester 2023, the following courses will be offered at the Chair of Industrial Management. The enrollments in OPAL start on 27.03.2023. Further details can be obtained by clicking on the name of the respective course and in the respective OPAL courses.

Lectures:

• Einführung Management Science: In this course you will learn the basic concepts of Management Science, Operations Research and Business Analytics. An overview is given of the essential methods for solving planning and optimization problems in business practice, and these are also applied practically in the accompanying tutorials (some in the PC pool). A special focus is on mathematical programming and the use of heuristic solution methods.
• Operatives Produktionsmanagement: With the lecture OPM, students are taught current business methodological knowledge in an area that lags behind the technological level of knowledge in many companies. The subject of the course is demand forecasting, employment smoothing, capacitated main production program planning, material requirements planning, short-term capacity balancing and machine allocation planning.
• Umweltorientierte Produktionsplanung: The analysis and modeling of the quantity- and value-based use of production factors in the combination process is the subject of the lecture "Environmentally Oriented Production Planning", which serves as basic theoretical training. Production factor systems, production function types and adaptation strategies for Gutenberg technologies (also including environmentally oriented considerations) are the focus here.
• Operations Research Vertiefung: Building on classical linear optimization, this course is first devoted to branch-and-bound algorithms and cutting plane methods that can be used to solve linear problems with integer requirements. Further, decomposition approaches such as Benders decomposition or column generation are discussed. This is followed by the treatment of nonlinear problems. In addition to the classical solution methods suitable for this purpose, newer heuristic solution algorithms are presented, which are illustrated on selected problems.

Seminars:

• Advanced Approaches in Industrial Management: In this course you will write a seminar paper of 25 pages in English on a selected topic of Industrial Management and present your results at the end. Interested students please enroll in OPAL during the period 27.03.-10.04.23 (including submission of a transcript of grades). The kick-off event is expected to take place on 11.04.23 / 10:30 (HÜL 509) .
• Bachelorseminar: This module and the seminar paper (20 pages) on topics of industrial management serves as preparation for the preparation of a bachelor thesis. Interested students please register in OPAL in the period from 27.03.-10.04.23 (incl. submission of a transcript of grades). The kick-off meeting is expected to take place on 11.04.23 / 11:00 (HÜL 509).
• WPA-Seminar: In this seminar, you will learn about the requirements for a scientific paper and apply the knowledge you have acquired to a 10-page seminar paper. The allocation of places to the seminar is done centrally by the faculty. You can register in OPAL from 07.03.-07.04.23 and indicate your preferred focus via a survey there. Students assigned to our department will be notified of the date of the kick-off meeting following the distribution.
• WPA-Projekt Excel: In this seminar you will get to know the software MS Excel by means of interactive exercises on the PC. In terms of content, knowledge of basics up to the use of the Excel solver for the solution of mathematical optimization problems will be imparted. The enrollment (for all WPA projects) takes place centrally in OPAL from 03.04.-14.04.23.
• Umsetzung quantitativer Methoden der BWL mit R: The course from the area "Methodische Grundlagen" is dedicated to the programming language R, an open source software for (statistical) data analysis and graphics. Besides the basics and the structure of the language, especially the application of this language in a scientific paper will be focused on. Enrollment is possible via OPAL starting 27.03.23 / 08:00.
• Prescriptive Analytics mit Python: In this offered seminar you can deepen application-oriented programming with the language "Python" and implement guided approximation methods for optimization problems. The enrollment is possible via OPAL from 27.03.23 / 09:00.
• Instrumente und Anwendungen des IM: In this course knowledge is imparted on the one hand, in order to be able to prepare scientific work with LaTeX. In addition, there will be an introduction to the software Gurobi, which can be used to solve mathematical optimization problems. Enrollment is possible via OPAL starting 27.03.23 / 10:00.
• IM Challenge: The IM Challenge is scheduled to be offered again in the summer semester of 2023. The topic is currently still being planned and more details will follow.
