In which order should customer orders be produced in order to meet delivery dates as best as possible and to minimize set-up times? Which supermarkets should be supplied together by one truck from the central warehouse and which route should be chosen? How can the various components be arranged in 3D printers so that printing times and power consumption are minimized? In companies, these and numerous other complex planning tasks have to be solved, for which so many different solutions exist that a human planner can no longer keep track of them. Therefore, without the use of modern quantitative methods, often only suboptimal plans are used. In this course you will learn the basic concepts of Management Science, Operations Research and Business Analytics. An overview is given of the essential methods for solving planning and optimization problems in business practice, and these are also applied practically in the accompanying tutorials (some of which are held in the PC laboratory). A special focus is on mathematical programming as well as the use of heuristic solution methods. And last but not least, a management science quiz champion will be found... |
