Prof. Dr. Frank Schirmer is retiring
After Prof. Dr. Frank Schirmer has held the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Organisation at the faculty since 2000, he will retire on September 30, 2023.
In teaching, the (former) students know Frank Schirmer both from the introductory course "Organisationsmanagement", as well as from more advanced courses in the focus "Management & Marketing", which dealt, among other things, with the strategic management of organizations and networks, as well as the interaction of organizations and complex, dynamic environments. Another focus in teaching was the analysis of change processes in organizations. Practical seminars, such as business games with LEGO Serious Play, were also used to deepen the learning material.
In his research, Frank Schirmer dealt with reflexivity and change in and of organizations, organizational learning theories as well as power and politics in companies, among others. His chair pursued a critically reflexive as well as social science-oriented management and organizational research, in which economic, social psychological, sociological as well as political science findings were combined and both quantitative and qualitative methods of empirical social research were used.
The promotion of young scientists was important to Frank Schirmer. He has been involved in numerous doctoral and post-doctoral procedures as well as doctoral colloquia. In the meantime, several of his research assistants have gone on to successful scientific careers themselves. Since 2014, Frank Schirmer has been chairman of the Standing Doctoral Committee.
We thank Prof. Dr. Schirmer for his commitment in teaching, research, promotion of young scientists and self-administration and wish him all the best for the new phase of his life that is now beginning.
