David Schirack on his study visit to University of Nevada
David Schirack is studying for a Master's degree in Business Administration and has decided to study abroad at the University of Nevada, Reno. He has extended his stay, originally planned for August to December 2026, by another semester.
1. Why did you choose the University of Nevada for your stay abroad?
I chose the University of Nevada (UNR) because it attaches great importance to combining business content, entrepreneurship and an international perspective. I had also been interested in studying in the USA for some time. The university is characterized by a very practical study environment, which is additionally supported by modern teaching and work rooms in the newly constructed Business Building. This includes a newly established trading and finance lab, which is designed in a targeted manner to teach students practical skills in dealing with financial markets and decision-making processes. What was particularly interesting for me was the opportunity to not only deal with economic topics in theory, but to apply them directly using specific projects and case studies.
2. You received the award for one semester, but decided to add another semester. How did that come about?
My stay was originally planned for one semester. After a short time, however, I realized how much both the course and the environment helped me personally and professionally and that one semester was hardly enough to gain more than a first impression. The practical teaching, the close interaction with inspiring professors and the involvement in campus life motivated me to extend my stay. I also developed a particular interest in the field of entrepreneurship. The extension was therefore a conscious decision to pursue newly developed professional interests and deepen my international experience.
3. What experiences will you return to the TUD with?
I will return to TU Dresden with an international network, a broader perspective on economic issues and a strongly practice-oriented way of working. Project-based teamwork, negotiation and decision-making exercises and the focus on entrepreneurial thinking were particularly formative. I also learned to quickly find my way in new environments, to take on responsibility in an international context and to work with people from different cultural backgrounds. These experiences will have a lasting impact on my future studies and career path.
