Progress confirms positive trends of recent years – New interim report on the digital transformation of Germany’s public health service published
The research project “EvalDiGe – Assessment and Evaluation of the Digital Maturity of German Public Health Offices,” funded by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG), has published its fourth interim report. The report presents the results of the nationwide 2024 digital maturity assessment and is available for download on the program website www.gesundheitsamt-2025.de
As part of the EvalDiGe project, the Research Group Digital Health at Technische Universität Dresden, together with Fraunhofer FIT, conducts the scientific evaluation of the digital transformation of the Public Health Service. The project aims to make the digital progress of health offices measurable within the framework of the “Pact for the Public Health Service.” The basis for this evaluation is the digital maturity model for the Public Health Service developed by the consortium, which has been used since 2022 as the reference instrument for assessing digital maturity.
The current assessment shows that German health offices continue to advance their digital transformation consistently. Following significant progress during the first three assessment years, the 2024 results reveal further improvements in several dimensions—particularly in digital strategy, IT infrastructure, staff development, and collaboration—confirming the positive trends of recent years.
The maturity model serves not only as a prerequisite for funding within the BMG program, but also as a practical management and steering tool for digitalization initiatives. Complementary materials, such as best practices, support health offices and federal states in the strategic planning and implementation of their digital transformation projects.
