Launch of the Second Funding Phase of the DigiHubs Health (MII)
With a kick-off event in Berlin, the second funding phase of the Digital Innovation Hubs for Health (DigiHubs) within the Startschuss für die zweite Förderphase der DigiHubs Gesundheit (MII) has officially begun. In this phase, the DigiHubs are funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) with a total of €50 million. The five-year funding period marks an important milestone in transferring digital innovations from university medicine into regional healthcare practice.
The aim of the DigiHubs is to implement, scale, and sustainably anchor already validated digital solutions in regional care settings—such as in oncology, acute and emergency care, or across intersectoral care pathways. At the same time, regional healthcare data are to be made available for research, quality assurance, and healthcare planning under clearly defined data protection and governance frameworks. A central role is played by the Data Integration Centers (DICs) of the Medical Informatics Initiative, as well as by interoperability with national and international data spaces.
The Digital Health Research Group is actively involved in the DigiHub MiHUB (Medical Informatics Hub). MiHUB aims to establish an intersectoral data and service space that digitally supports complex patient journeys—particularly in cancer prevention, cooperative oncological care, and follow-up care for long-term survivors. Building on the results of the first funding phase, MiHUB will expand its activities regionally and implement them jointly with partners from university medicine, hospitals, outpatient practices, rehabilitation and nursing facilities, and other healthcare stakeholders.
