Discovering futures with science: Visionary realities at COSMO
Exhibition "Shaping futures together - Visionary realities"
Until July 18, 2024, "Visionary Realities" offers the opportunity to experience and explore transformative visions of science and research. To this end, the COSMO Science Forum in the Kulturpalast Dresden has become a stage for the variety of topics, collaborations and partnerships of the Speculative Transformation Department - which planned and implemented the exhibition.
How do we envision the future?
What new and creative solutions are science and research finding for the joint development of the future? The exhibition asks what cities do we aspire to live in, how we deal with change due to the climate crisis and what the working world of the future will look like. It invites us to question transformative processes and to participate in shaping the future. It also addresses the question: Which futures do we want to prevent at all costs?
"Through exciting insights and interactive presentations, we hope to promote a deeper understanding of the collective efforts towards a sustainable and inclusive future, " says Dr. Robert Fischer, Research Coordinator of the CIDS DepartmentSpeculative Transformation (DST), summarizing the aim.
Testing futures interactively
The 15 exhibition modules enable visitors to get to know and try out current scientific activities and methods designed to make the future tangible and understandable today. An interactive VR world makes it possible to experience collaboration with virtual robots in industrial halls, and simulations can be used to play through different variants of the future. Software and projects invite visitors to join in. You can see how traffic flows are developing, which parts of the city need special protection in the event of flooding and how work is already underway in Dresden and the surrounding area to develop plans for the future: From the further development of public spaces in Dresden to the transformation in Lusatia or the Ore Mountains.
Opening hours and program
"Designing Futures Together: Visionary Realities" can be visited at the COSMO Science Forum from Tuesday to Thursday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. until July 18. Admission to COSMO is free of charge.
The exhibition will be accompanied by scientists who are curious to exchange ideas and suggestions on how research can help shape the future. The team is available to advise visitors during opening hours. There is also a series of events on topics related to the exhibition.
