Since 2019, the Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence - ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig - extends the research program of the national competence center for Big Data, ScaDS, founded in 2014. With its research, ScaDS.AI bridges the gap between the efficient use of mass data and advanced AI and addresses new methods for machine learning, knowledge management and efficient data handling. Furthermore, ScaDS.AI develops service-oriented solutions and cooperates with a variety of application partners from science and industry.

The Department CODIP – Open Digital Innovation and Participation conducts interdisciplinary research on digital media and tools for teaching, learning, research, and societal contexts. It develops concepts, educational programs, and digital applications, evaluates their use in innovation processes and digital research infrastructures, and trains early-career researchers. CODIP disseminates research findings on digital transformation and inclusive participation, both through its own projects and in collaboration with partners at TU Dresden, across Germany, and internationally.

At ZIH – Information Services and High Performance Computing, research, development, and services in supercomputing, data management, and IT infrastructures are integrated. It operates the university’s central IT services and computing resources, develops innovative solutions for data-intensive research, and strengthens TU Dresden’s digital capabilities. As an integral part of CIDS, ZIH combines application-oriented service expertise with scientific excellence and works closely with partners from academia, industry, and business.

The DST – Department of Speculative Transformation combines technology-oriented research and development with a human-centered, sustainable, and socially reflective focus. Building on interdisciplinary research fields, DST addresses societal challenges at the intersection of humans, technology, society, and the environment, integrating ethical, social, ecological, legal, economic, and user-specific considerations into innovation and change processes.

Synergy of Systems (SynoSys) focuses on research in „Interdisciplinary Digital Science for Healthy Human Development“ for complex systems. SynoSys investigates emergence, self-organization and swarm intelligence in heterogeneous, complex, collective adaptive human-nature-technical systems like robots in medicine, neural systems or social groups. Using digital research methods, it investigates how research results can be transferred between different disciplines.

The further development of digitalization is a central strategic goal of the TUD. The Support Center Digitalization (SCD), started its work on 1 January 2024 under the responsibility of the CDIO. The SCD supports TUD members as a central point of contact, for example in questions relating to security aspects, digital administration and central IT support.

The interactive science lab, an interdisciplinary team at CIDS, is planning interactive exhibition modules that feature prototypes and demonstrators of current research from CIDS combined with historical objects from university collections.

The Center for Advanced Modeling and Simulation (CAMS) combines the activities in the field of method, theory and software development for computational modeling and numerical simulation in different application areas. Based on research projects of the professorships of Scientific Computing and Applied Mathematics, Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science and Nanotechnology, and Scientific Computing in Systems Biology, CAMS creates an innovative platform for simulations at the highest level.

The Living Labs Computer Science Saxony (LICOSS) are an open, interdisciplinary department designed for interacting with the outside world, researching the cross-sectional fields of Mixed-Reality Systems and Cyber-Physical Systems and demonstrating them to the public in open experimental environments (Living Labs).
