Dr. Lucas Kuhrts
I am a chemist with a focus on the characterization and understanding of nanostructured systems. Using electron microscopy in combination with different synchrotron X-ray techniques -such as small-angle X-ray scattering and X-ray absorption spectroscopy- I have studied the non-classical nucleation pathways in biomimetic magnetite nanoparticles in the presence of polycations. My current project uses the ability of dinoflagellates to biomineralize single-crystalline calcite structures. We aim to transform the algae calcite under retention of its crystal structure into lead halide perovskites producing a new material inaccessible by conventional synthetic approaches.
