Welcome to the Biotechnology Center of the TU Dresden (BIOTEC)
Fundamental biological discoveries are often driven by technological advances. The Biotechnology Center (BIOTEC) was founded in 2000 and is now one of the three institutes of the central scientific unit Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB) It plays an essential role in the research profile line Health Sciences, Biomedicine and Bioengineering of TUD Dresden University of Technology.
The BIOTEC is an interdisciplinary research center that develops innovative technologies driving the progress of modern life sciences in the areas of molecular cell and developmental biology, biophysics and computational biology. The balance and synergy between technology development and basic research drives the sustained success of basic, applied, and translational research at the BIOTEC. The interdisciplinary team of scientists from more than 20 countries sees itself as the driving force for the further development of the institute, the CMCB, as well as the research and teaching landscape in the JohannstadtCampus, Dresden and worldwide. This is reflected, among other things, in the successes that led to the establishment of the Center for Regenrative Therapies (CRTD) and the Physics of Life (PoL) DFG Excellence Cluster applications of the TU Dresden.
State-of-the-art technologies are made available via facilities of the CMCB Technology Platform and innovative discoveries are spun-out into commercial enterprises. The BIOTEC offers teaching in the international Master's programs established at CMCB and at the masters and bachelor level in various Faculties of the TUD as well as PhD research projects to train future scientists in its core research disciplines.
