Illumina Stratamap: Large-Area, High-Sensitivity Whole-Transcriptome Spatial Profiling
The DRESDEN-concept Genome Center (DcGC), in collaboration with the Histology and Light Microscopy Facilities of the CMCB Technology Platform, has implemented Illumina StrataMap for spatial transcriptomics. The technology has recently been implemented at the DcGC, and initial experimental results are currently being evaluated to assess its performance for large-area, high-resolution spatial transcriptomic analysis. As a species-agnostic approach, StrataMap can be applied to different tissues and model organisms.
StrataMap provides a capture area of up to 750 mm², allowing the analysis of large tissue sections or multiple samples in a single experiment. The technology uses poly(A)-based capture for unbiased whole-transcriptome profiling without predefined probe panels, including the detection of coding and non-coding transcripts. Its 1 µm oligo-coated capture surface supports high spatial resolution and high sensitivity, with approximately 2,000 transcripts detected per 10 µm bins.
