DOmIcILE-VR explores approaches for sustainable implementation of virtual reality (VR) learning environments in formal (vocational) institutions of education. This involves the development and pilot testing of a VR learning scenario that allows trainees in the real estate industry to practise the technical inspection of rental flats through a role-play activity in a dynamic VR environment. The first operational prototype of the scenario, which can be entered via a smartphone cardboard system, was completed in September 2020. It was tested with trainees of the Akademie für berufliche Bildung (AFBB) in Dresden from October to December 2020. The promising and highly insightful results of the first of three test phases were presented at the 7th International Conference on Education, which took place virtually from 06 to 08 April 2021. The award motivates the entire team to continue on their path to sustainably establish VR technology in formal education.
