Plone Conference 2017 - Media Centre in Barcelona
This year's Plone Conference took place in Barcelona from the 16-20 October 2017. At the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - Barcelona Tech (UPC), two members of the Media and Information Technology Department (MIT) of the Media Centre spent an educational and informative week.
Since 2004 Plone has been the content management system (CMS) of the TU Dresden website. At the Media Centre, the CMS is being developed continuously for university specific requirements. As an input source and knowledge sharing opportunity, the annual meeting of the international Plone community is therefore a MUST for our developers.
In various trainings and talks, our participants received many new impulses for the use of Plone for the TUD website as well as for smaller web portals managed by the media centre, such as the LIFE LOCAL ADAPT portal. In addition, new ideas have emerged from discussions with the participating universities, such as the University of Jyväskyla or the KU Leuven (Belgian partner university of the TU Dresden).
Our developers also contributed to the conference with two talks. Firstly Sebastian Schietzold presented on the topic "TUD Chat - a moderated chat add-on for Plone". This chat add-on for Plone, developed by the Media Center, enables direct communication website visitors. It will be published soon as an open source release.
In addition, Sebastian Gottfried presented a case study on the use of Plone at the TU Dresden. In the report "TU Dresden: A Large-Scale Plone Deployment Case Study" he explained typical challenges in dealing with Plone in large installations and suggested solutions.
The slides of the presentations can be downloaded as PDF files from the following links:
