General information and application deadlines
For this degree program, proof of special aptitude must be provided in accordance with the aptitude assessment regulations of 13.02.2025. Therefore, the aptitude assessment is prior to the actual enrollment.
Accordingly, special application deadlines must be observed, which differ from applications without an aptitude assessment procedure:
- for the start of studies in the winter semester by 15.07. (start: 01.06.) of each year or
- for the start of studies in the summer semester by 15.01. (start: 01.12.) of each year
The application documents must be uploaded to the portal for aptitude assessment mentioned below.

- by 31.05. (start: 01.04.) for the winter semester and
- for the summer semester by 30.11. (start: 01.10.) of each year.

The decision of the aptitude assessment procedure is binary, i.e. applications are only accepted or rejected. It is not possible to impose conditions to achieve the relevant subject requirements.
Requirements for admission (according to the aptitude assessment regulations)
Language requirements
The Master's degree program is taught in English.
For this reason, appropriate knowledge of the English language at level B2 CEFR is a prerequisite for admission to the Master's degree course in Computer Science. This can be done, for example, through language certificates such as TOEFL or IELTS.
Subject requirements
Applicants for the Master's degree program in Computer Science must provide proof of sufficient subject knowledge in accordance with the aptitude assessment regulations. Accordingly, they must have
- a first professionally qualifying university degree in Computer Science;
- 90 credit points with non-overlapping content from the following areas:
- at least 35 credit points on topics of operating systems, computer networks, distributed systems, computer architecture, computer engineering, databases, data security, computer graphics or human-computer interaction;
- at least 35 credit points in the fundamentals of mathematics (for computer science), theoretical computer science or artificial intelligence,
- at least 20 credit points in the fundamentals of programming, data structures and software engineering.
How to apply
The application process is divided into two parts:
- Applying for the degree program
Please use the online application form of the Admissions Office or the International Office for your application! Depending on the origin of your higher education entrance qualification (HZB), the application switch will direct you either- to the uni-assist application portal (this primarily concerns applicants with a foreign HZB) or
- to the selma application portal of TU Dresden (applicants with a domestic HZB and applicants already enrolled at TU Dresden).
- Application for aptitude assessment at the admission committee of the Master's program Computer Science
Please prepare the documents listed below for the application and start the application via the portal for aptitude assessment.
Documents to be submitted
To apply for the aptitude assessment, please submit all documents that are required both for the application itself (see point 01.) and for the aptitude assessment (see point 02.). These are
- the documents listed on the application form (the application form is a pdf document which you must download and sign after entering all the information required for the application in the relevant application portal ),
- a formal application for aptitude assessment for the Master's degree program in Computer Science (you must print out and sign this application after entering all the information required for the aptitude assessment in the aptitude assessment portal ),
- Curriculum vitae, in particular describing your academic career to date,
- informal letter of motivation, which provides evidence of your desire to study and your particular aptitude,
- Copy of the first professionally qualifying university degree certificate or confirmation from the responsible office at your university that at least 80% of the credit points required for the university degree have been achieved (so-called 80% certificate1,
- Copies of additional certificates and proof of special aptitude,
- Module descriptions (or comparable content overviews) of the modules relevant to the Master's degree program in Computer Science (unless you have completed your degree in one of the Bachelor's degree programs at the Faculty of Computer Science),
- Proof of the required English language skills at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) based on the result of an internationally offered test.
Please note that all certificates must be provided in the original or as a copy of an official certificate! The certificates must be submitted in German or English translation if they are not written in one of these languages.

Applicants who do not have a first professionally qualifying university degree at the time of application, but who have already achieved 80% of the credit points required for a university degree, will still be included in the aptitude assessment procedure. For this purpose, please have the form from the Admissions Office confirmed by the responsible office at your university/faculty. You must still provide proof of sufficient subject knowledge in accordance with point 02.
