The Jean Monnet “Teaching and Research” Actions must take one of the following forms:

• Modules are short teaching programmes or courses in the field of European Union studies offered at a higher education institution. They may concentrate on one particular discipline in European studies or be multidisciplinary in approach.

• Chairs are teaching posts with a specialisation in European Union studies.

• Centres of Excellence are focal points of competence and knowledge on European Union subjects which gather the expertise and competences of high-level experts and create joint transnational activities.

Jean Monnet beneficiaries are requested to organise activities and events that shall ensure openness to policy makers, civil servants, civil society and the general public at large.

Eligibility criteria

• Modules: Any higher education institution can apply (exception: Belarus).

• Chairs: Any higher education institution can apply (exception: Belarus). Jean Monnet Chair holders must be permanent staff members at the applicant institution. The Jean Monnet Chair is held by only one professor who takes responsibility for delivering a minimum of 90 teaching hours per academic year.

• Centres of Excellence: Any higher education institution can apply (exception: Belarus). Only one Jean Monnet Center of Excellence will be supported at the same time in any participating higher education institution.

Project duration

• Modules: Minimum duration of 40 teaching hours per academic year for a duration of three years.

• Chairs: Minimum duration of 90 teaching hours per academic year for a duration of three years.

• Centres of Excellence: three years

Total budget

• Modules: max. 30,000.00 EUR

• Chairs: max. 50,000.00 EUR

• Centres of Excellence: max. 100,000.00 EUR

The lump sum contributions will cover staff costs, travel and subsistence costs, equipment costs and subcontracting as well as other costs (dissemination of information, publishing, translation).

The Grant will amount to 75 % of the estimated budget for Jean-Monnet Modules and Chairs, and will amount to 80 % for Centres of Excellence.
